I've lost count of the amount of times I've been asked how to construct 3D or embossed text - part numbers or company names. The answer is easy, if not entirely straightforward assuming you are after a font that exists in the CATIA library!
First we start off in the drafting workbench. Click on the text icon on the Annotations
toolbar, then click near the origin of the drawing to place the text. Select the appropriate font and type the text
as required. The drawing then needs to
be saved as a dxf file. (You can discard
the drawing file if no changes are planned).
When you reopen the dxf file, you will find that the text has been
magically transformed into a double-line style with a closed internal area.
This new text can be copied and pasted into a sketch (hopefully
near the sketch origin!) on your 3D model.
It can then be rotated, scaled and repositioned then padded or pocketed
as required.
